Sequence Analytics

Calculates standard physicochemical properties and amino acid composition deterministically from protein sequences.

What Sequence Analytics is

Sequence Analytics is a computational utility developed by Corollary Labs that provides baseline characterisation of protein sequences. It determines fundamental properties including molecular weight, theoretical isoelectric point (pI), the grand average of hydropathy (GRAVY) index, aromaticity, net charge, and the extinction coefficient at 280 nm (ε₂₈₀).

In addition to bulk physicochemical values, the tool calculates complete amino acid composition tables, tabulating both absolute counts and relative frequencies for each residue type.

Calculations are closed-form and deterministic, implementing standard ExPASy ProtParam definitions so that resulting values directly align with established laboratory benchmarking tools.

What you can use it for

Physicochemical property calculation
Derive molecular weight, net charge, theoretical pI, and light extinction coefficients (ε₂₈₀) from a protein sequence.
Hydropathy and aromaticity assessment
Evaluate sequence hydrophobicity via the GRAVY index alongside aromatic amino acid content.
Residue composition profiling
Generate detailed per-residue counts and percentage frequencies across the entire protein chain.

Run it here

No installation and no GPU of your own: fill in the inputs and it runs on our servers. Results stay in your browser unless you sign in.

Sequence Analytics

Single-letter amino acid code. Whitespace and FASTA headers are stripped automatically.

Strengths and limits

Good at

  • Uses closed-form, deterministic calculations that execute instantaneously.
  • Adheres directly to ExPASy ProtParam definitions for consistency with standard protocols.
  • Executes entirely on standard CPU hardware without GPU requirements.

Watch out for

  • Restricted to primary sequence inputs without accounting for post-translational modifications or tertiary structure.
  • Outputs represent theoretical values rather than experimentally measured solution properties.

Questions

Can I use Sequence Analytics commercially?

Commercial use permitted. The MIT licence allows use in commercial research and products.

How do I run Sequence Analytics without installing anything?

Use the form under “Run it here” on this page: fill in the inputs and press Run model. It runs on our servers, typically in 25ms, and a run costs free. Visitors without an account get 1,000 credits a month.

Which metrics does Sequence Analytics report?

It reports molecular weight, theoretical pI, the GRAVY hydropathy index, aromaticity, net charge, extinction coefficient at 280 nm, and per-residue composition counts and frequencies.

Are the results comparable to ExPASy ProtParam?

Yes. The tool follows the ExPASy ProtParam definitions directly, making the resulting properties equivalent to ProtParam outputs.

Does this tool require specialized hardware or a GPU?

No. The tool uses closed-form calculations that run on standard CPU hardware.
